Online
Psychotherapy
Online sessions are conducted via Zoom or WhatsApp video calls.
Online therapy sessions maintain the same approach as in-person therapy, with identical goals and the same therapeutic alliance. Research shows that online therapy is as effective as in-person sessions, with the added benefit that patients don’t need to travel to the office. This is particularly helpful for individuals who travel frequently for work or live in areas with limited access to in-person therapy.
The Portuguese Psychologists' Association (OPP) began formally recognizing online psychological services during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In response to the public health crisis and the need for social distancing, the OPP issued specific guidelines to regulate and facilitate remote therapy.
